Topical administration to assist with the management of warts removal (common & plantar warts – hands and feet)
Warts are common in both children and adults but can be very frustrating to get rid of. Some people may find them itchy, painful and embarrassing.
What is Dermafilm and what is it used for?
Dermafilm assists with the management of warts removal (common & plantar warts – hands and feet only).
Dermafilm contains two active ingredients: salicylic acid and lactic acid which when applied directly to warts soften the skin and encourage the wart to peel off.
Warts affect the top layers of your skin and are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). Warts are very contagious and can spread quickly onto damaged skin, especially in warm, moist environments, but it can sometimes take from several weeks to months for a wart to appear.
Most people will experience at least one wart in their lifetime and often they will clear up on their own, but this may take several months and sometimes even years. Dermafilm effectively speeds up the removal of warts but some people will not see improvements to their skin for up to 4-8 weeks.
How to use Dermafilm wart solution?
Dermafilm should be applied directly to warts once or twice a day for up to 12 weeks and is suitable for children and adults from the age of 2 years.
1. The wart should be soaked in warm water for 5 minutes and dried thoroughly with a clean towel.
2. A thin layer of Dermafilm should be applied directly to the wart. Care should be taken to avoid the healthy surrounding skin.
3. The solution should be allowed to dry thoroughly. The wart should be covered with a plaster (dressing) if it is large or if it is on the foot to help penetration of ingredients.
It is recommended to continue applying the solution until whichever of the following occurs first:
• The solution has been applied for 12 weeks
• The wart is completely cleared, and the normal ridgelines of the skin have been restored.
For warts, clinically visible improvement should occur in 1-2 weeks, but the maximum effect may be expected after 4-8 weeks.
If warts persist beyond 12 weeks, the patient should be advised to consult their healthcare practitioner.
Consider alternative solutions if warts cover a large area of the body (more than 5 cm2)
